About Church > The story so far...

In 1995 two couples, after many years at a Baptist Church, felt God calling them to more experience of the Holy Spirit. They felt God powerfully confirm this to them whilst they were on holiday in Canada together. Dave & Anj Martin and John & Valerie Telford left the Baptist Church at the end of 1995, and during 1996 sought God's guidance on Friday evenings, through prayer and Bible Study. Another couple joined them, and they also visited other churches to network and see what God was doing.

Eventually, others asked to come along and a small group formed. In early 1997, towards the end of the Balkan war, the three Leaders took two large vans of aid to Belgrade, Serbia. The Church's name: The King's Community Church emerged when visa applications for the trip requested the name of the organisation. The group grew and also started to meet on Sunday mornings, still in Dave & Anj's back room. KCC also commenced the process of moving into association with Newfrontiers, and also joined the Evangelical Alliance and Churches Together in St. Albans, as well as becoming a registered Charity.

At Easter, 1999, the Church moved to Verulam school. In 2002, again after some powerful prophecy, David Rigby became the Church's first full-time Pastor, and eventually moved from Brentwood with his family. The Church has grown and has a vision to reach out into St. Albans and surrounding towns. As well as running Alpha courses, KCC has started a Youth Club, a Mothers and Toddlers Group, and a number of initiatives to Students at the University of Hertfordshire . In 2005, Dave Martin, John Telford, and Garry Yee became elders alongside David Rigby.

In 2007 the leaders of KCC received many powerful words, pictures & prophesies from God directing them to move the base of the church from St Albans to Hatfield. Of particular significance was a picture of 'an open heaven over Hatfield'.

So, in the early summer of 2007, 3 guest services were held at the Comet hotel in Hatfield, and in October 2007, KCC moved from Verulam school to Hatfield.

This move to Hatfield does not mean that KCC no longer works in St Albans, rather it is an exciting move forward to enable us to draw people from St Albans, Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City to a more central location.
